| Core Component | Functional Role |
|---|---|
| Corrugating Rolls | The core forming part; uses high temperature and pressure to press the base paper into the flute profile. |
| Pressure Roll | Provides pressure to ensure tight bonding between the linerboard and the corrugated medium. |
| Glue Applicator | Applies an even coat of adhesive to the tips of the flutes. |
| Preheater | Preheats the base paper to enhance its plasticity, facilitating formation. |
Within the structure of corrugated board, the corrugated medium (fluting) layer is the key to providing cushioning performance and compression strength. The single facer is precisely the only piece of equipment that creates this core structure. Without it, flat base paper cannot possess the mechanical properties required for boxes.
Simply put: The single facer is responsible for "creating the waves," and the subsequent equipment is responsible for "stacking the waves together." It is the source of the entire box's compression resistance and cushioning capabilities.
